Dear Parents and Carers,
What a very interesting start we have had for term 3. It certainly feels like we have started the term twice. It has been another challenging time for everyone across our state as we settled into this new Semester. The important thing is for all of us to look out for each other, taking the time to check in on each other’s wellbeing. It is also very important for our students to begin again and establish a good school routine so that they are feeling good about coming back to school and being with their friends and engaged in their learning.
I must say it was very timely having the Olympic Games to watch during lockdown, as it provided a real distraction and a wonderful feeling of national pride. Nothing like cheering on our athletes and getting into sports that you don’t normally see on centre stage.
I would like to thank you all for the way you have handled the restrictions, especially around the wearing of masks and the way families have adjusted to the pick-up and drop off arrangements. This is greatly appreciated and allows us to be safe and efficient during these times. We hope we can have families coming back on to the school grounds soon.
We welcome our very new Mid-Year Reception students and their families to our school. I would like to congratulate them on the way they have managed their start to school life and thank Ms Mae McGee for such a smooth start, even if we did do it twice! I would like to welcome to our school community:
Paloma, Emiliana, Allegra, Alessandro, Benjamin, Mason, Alexis, Victoria, Oscar, Isaac and Vivien. We wish them well in their learning journey.
Congratulations to our Term 3 School Captains, Adriana and Kaspar – we look forward to seeing your leadership skills in action throughout this term.
Catholic Education Open Week
Each year, our system promotes Catholic Schools Open Week in August. You may have noticed many signs at bus stops and shopping centres highlighting this initiative around Adelaide. Our school has some posters in the region on a few bus stops and at the Firle Shopping centre (keep an eye out when you are out and about).
This promotion is for all our catholic schools in South Australia assisting new families in choosing a school. Families are encouraged to discover their local Catholic school and see how a Catholic education can set your child up for life. We are currently preparing for 2022 and have sent home the re-enrolment form. Can you please complete the form and return it to the front office by Friday 20 August.
Living Learning Leading (LLL) Parent Survey
During the week you would have received an invitation to take part in the Living Learning Leading survey for parents and carers. This is a system wide survey and will be used for reviewing the performance of our schools. It is designed to provide an opportunity for parents and carers to tell the school staff how things are going for you as a family. We will also be conducting student and staff surveys during this time to capture a whole community snap shot of our school.
I encourage you to make time to complete this survey as it will assist our school in continuing to grow and improve for all our families. Please refer to the email sent, which contains the website and login details. Thank you for your support.
Uniforms
Just a reminder that we now have the new school tracksuit pants and sports socks available at JS Sports Uniform Shop. The new style tracksuit pants have the school logo which is also on the sports shorts. I look forward to seeing our students beginning to wear the new design.
Can I please remind all parents to make sure your child is wearing the correct uniform to school each day. Lately we have been seeing a variety of clothing items that are not school uniform. If for any reason your child is unable to wear the correct uniform on the day, please inform your child’s class teacher.
Uniforms will need to be extra special next week as we prepare for our school photos day on Thursday 12 August. Can you please make sure your child is prepared in their more formal uniform for the day. Thanks for your continued support.
Staffing News
We welcome Lauren Johnson to our staff team this term. Lauren will be working part time in the Year 2 class and teaching on Thursdays and Fridays as Fil Crescitelli reduces her teaching days to Monday through to Wednesday. I would like to congratulate Lauren as we look forward to working with her over this semester.
Finally, thank you again for all your support during another tricky period. In these challenging times it is good to know we have a wonderful caring school environment, where we can feel safe happy and be in relationship with each other and God.
Stay safe
Adrian
