Week 9, Term 3 2024
We are delighted to announce that the builder’s fences are down and now have access to our beautiful gardens which surround the new classrooms and learning street. The school yard now has a lovely flow to it as we can see right down to the oval from the hall. The children have responded well to the new spaces and they are enjoying the open feel of the play spaces and the new learning spaces.
New Sports Shed
Our new Sports Shed is proving to be a wonderful asset to our school. A big thankyou to our Parents and Friends Committee who organized wonderful fundraising to enable this to be purchased. It would not have been possible without the generosity of our families – so thank you for supporting your children and the school in our fundraising events.
For the last two weeks of this term, we are welcoming families into our classrooms for our Learning Showcases. It has been a wonderful experience for everyone for far. Below are some of the comments from our Receptions and Year One children. Our Years Two to Six will be hosting their showcases next week.
What was the best thing about the showcase?
Reading my Three Little Pigs book to Mummy – Charlotte
My Dad got to see all of my work – Zoe
I loved that my Mummy came and gave me a big kiss – Harry
When my dad came and looked at my learning – Cameron
How did you feel having your family at the Showcase?
Happy because I got to spend more time with Mum at school – Sofia
I was happy because I got to show Dad my work – Sebastian
Happy because I showed my work and she said it was ‘cool’ – Haley
I felt happy because I got to spend time with my mum and dad at school - Nuit
Strumming into Ukulele
Our Year 2 students have just started learning the ukulele, and it has been such a rewarding experience for them. The ukulele is a perfect instrument for beginners, offering a great introduction to string instruments. The children are learning basic chords, how to hold the instrument, and the joy of strumming together. It’s been wonderful to see the excitement on their faces as they make their first musical sounds on this charming instrument.
Exploring Pitch and Melodic Patterns
Students from Reception to Year 4 have been diving into the world of pitch using chime bars and xylophones. These colorful instruments are fantastic for helping students understand how pitch works—learning to recognize high and low notes as well as patterns in music. By tapping the bars, students can create melodies and experiment with the different sounds each note produces.
Through fun, interactive activities, students are gaining confidence in identifying and matching pitches, which is a key building block in music education. The students particularly enjoyed learning melody patterns from well-known pop songs, such as Queen’s We Will Rock You.
In week 5, the Year 3/4 cohort went to the Nunyara camp-site in Belair. We were very fortunate and got to participate in a variety of outdoor activities, some of which included initiative +, water obstacle, amazing race and billy carts. The students developed a lot of team building skills and really enjoyed their time away from school and being in a different environment. It was a great experience and when we got back to school, the students wrote persuasive texts to convince all the other classes at the school to go on camp.
We have upgraded the School Telephone System and because of this process we have been given a new Telephone Number.
Our New Number is: 8 2 1 7 8 3 0 0
Please make a note of this number in your phone or your records.

Our family playgroup is back for another exciting year in 2024.
It’s a new year and we’re bouncing back with excitement as we reintroduce our playgroup name ~ Joey’s Playgroup. Our family playgroup is facilitated by SPiCE (Supported Playgroup in Catholic Education) and is suitable for you and your child (birth to 5 years). Our playgroup focuses on actively involving parents, grandparents, and carers by proving you with opportunities to play, talk, sing and explore with your child and other families in a relaxed, fun and supported environment.
Joey’s Playgroup is FREE and runs during the school term on a Wednesday morning from 9am-11am in the small Parish Hall (entrance via Birkinshaw Ave).
If you are new and would like to join us, please register your interest via our website Playgroup Registration Form. Jacqui our Playgroup Coordinator will then be in touch.
Come and discover the magic of play! We hope to see you there!
