Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of Term 3, I would like to acknowledge and thank everyone for their hard work this term. All students and teachers should be proud of their efforts and I am sure all are looking forward to the term break.
Each day we continue to inch closer to the completion of our play spaces. Unfortunately, with the current weather pattern we are experiencing it is affecting their progress each day. We can now certainly see the Adventure Playspace getting close to completion; we are hopeful that the rubber surface can be laid soon when we have a series of dry days in a row. It will be very exciting to see the temporary fences disappear and see students out in the Playspace having fun next term.
School Board
At our recent Board meeting, we discussed the importance of sharing some WHS matters with the school community and advising the community of our new Strategic Plan which is now available on the website at this link https://www.stjotran.catholic.edu.au/about-us/strategic-plan
The school has recently purchased a new defibrillator now located outside the Parent Room in the Top Hall. This has the ability to support young children to adults and is now a very important inclusion in our school to assist with first aid.
The Board also discussed the latest updated guidelines released by the Department for Education, Independent Schools of SA and CESA on “Sexual Behaviour in children and young people”. this document provides immediate and necessary actions when responding to this behaviour as well as resources to assist.
The new Resource can be found on the following website: https://www.education.sa.gov.au/parents-and-families/safety-and-wellbeing/sexual-behaviour-children-and-young-people-information-parents-and-carers
The Catholic Schools Music Festival
Last night we were treated to a delightful performance of our students who performed at the Festival Theatre. The Year 5/6 students were part of a combined Catholic Schools Choir made up of 16 other catholic schools who came together on the night to sing several songs including a special tribute to Abba. The theme of the festival was ‘Hear Us’ and the music took us on an emotional journey with songs that reflected on the world today and our belief in a hopeful future.
Our students have worked hard over the last 3 terms to learn the songs and remember all the actions that go with the performance. We are all extremely proud of them and thank them for their commitment and singing talent.
We say a special thank you to Julia Johnson for all her work in preparing the students for this night. This is a very big job and we thank her for everything she does to make music a special part of our school.
Sports Day
With Sports Day this Thursday, no doubt you have received the program outlined for the day. Please remind your children to wear their school hat and apply sunscreen. Please arrive at 8:45am at Daly Oval for a 9am start. The weather is looking fine - partly cloudy with light winds, around 18 degrees, so all set for a great day. This year we welcome our new Physical Education Specialist Teacher, Ms Tara Walkley who has been working hard to organise the day with staff. It will be a great chance for families to meet Tara.
The students will have recess provided by the P & F with a selection of cheese with crackers and a piece of fruit. Parents will be able to purchase coffee and snacks from the football club canteen.
Please ensure your child brings a drink bottle, which they can take with them to each of the activities. Lunch has been pre-ordered, however you will be able to purchase a sausage on the day.
We always look forward to this great community event and students love the opportunity to participate and support their house team. The term will officially end after sports day and students will be on their term break as Friday is a pupil free day – with the five Eastern region Catholic parish schools meeting for the last of our PD sessions on student wellbeing.
I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe term break and I look forward to next term and the opening of our new play spaces
Kind regards
Adrian Grbin
